ADD-A-MEAL Program
We so often hear of hunger problems around the world. Add-A-Meal is a local
mission to help with hunger in Jackson
and surrounding areas. Christ calls us to
serve the poor and the hungry; the
Add-A-Meal for Christ program makes it
simple to fulfill our calling and
minister to those who have real needs
right here at home.
The
Add-A-Meal program is administered by
RIFA. Northside UMC participates in this
program on a weekly basis and is joined
by other area churches in this outreach
ministry. According to what the Food
Pantry needs most, a monthly menu is
published in our church newsletter. The
food is purchased and brought to a
collection site at our church, then once
a week the food is delivered to RIFA,
where it goes directly into the Food
Pantry and becomes available to local
families who need a helping hand.
One of the RIFA staff then gathers a
variety of groceries for that particular
family from the Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry always needs
things like Jelly, Canned Fruit,
Canned Meat (tuna/chicken), Rice,
Cereal, Spaghetti Sauce, Cake Mix
Allowing your children to
participate by including an item of
their choice also helps them understand
about sharing and giving to others.
This vital outreach is open for
everyone, it doesn't require any
additional time away from your family,
and it is so simple that even children
can contribute.

The
Journey
The Journey, a Christ-centered,
Biblically-based ministry to help people
overcome their hurts, habits, and
hang-ups. It’s purpose is to
encourage fellowship and to celebrate
God’s healing power in our lives.
If you have been thinking about helping
out with The Journey on Wednesday
nights at Northside, you are needed!
Volunteers willing to help teach once
every 4-5 months, give a testimony, help
lead praise and worship music and to
prepare and serve desserts are needed.
Contact Chuck Jones (267-4887) or Daphne
Moses
daphne@northsidemethodist.org
, 668-0617 if you are willing to help or
want more information about helping.
There are meeting in Room 402A
after Praise Service.

The Food
Patrol
“THE BREAD PATROL” is looking for a
few people who are willing to insure
that the Soup Kitchen will not run out
of bread as they try to feed people in
our community.
Your commitment would be to take 28
loaves of bread to the Soup Kitchen no
more than once every quarter (13 weeks).
The cost for 28 loaves of bread should
not be more than $25.00. If you
are willing to commit no more than 1
hour and less than $25.00 per quarter to
achieve this goal, please contact Dick
Arrington at 668-7120 or e-mail to
jananddickey@charter.net.
There is a sign up sheet in the Narthex
at the church or you can e-mail Jim
Stilwell
publisher@northsidemethodist.org at
the church. We will need your home
phone number, cell phone number, and
e-mail address so we can contact you
when it is your turn to make your
delivery. You will receive a
calendar showing your assigned day along
with additional information in the very
near future. We would like to make
our first delivery starting Sept. 2,
2008.

Maplewood Ministry
Maplewood nursing home has a special
place in Northside's heart. As part of
our community, we are called to serve
all! Come be a part of this important
ministry to lead the residents in
worship.

Jonathan’s Kids
Inspired by the story of David and
Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9:13), members
here at Northside UMC offer this caring ministry. Jonathan’s Kids
mission is to offer support,
encouragement, and respite to families
with special needs children, as well as
help the whole church family gain a
better understanding of what these
families face on a daily basis. The goal
is to minister to the unique needs of
these parents and their children.
Whether you have a child with special
needs or simply want to help, your
donations of time, creativity, or
financial support ( dinner for the
children), would be greatly appreciated.
We currently have a need for volunteers
for special needs Parents Night Out and
for Sunday School. If interested please
call Margaret Dougan, 424-1778.
Jonathan’s Kids offers a night out for
parents of special needs kids and their
siblings. Jonathan’s Kids meets the 4th
Friday of each month from 6:00-9:00 pm
in the LEC. After sharing a meal of
pizza and fruit, the kids have a chance to
play together. This program gives
parents of special needs children a
chance to spend some time out whether it
is dinner out, going to a movie,
shopping without kids, or just having
some quiet time at home. Nurses
and Special Education teachers are
always welcome, but you do not have to
have special training. If you love
children and would like to be a part of
this program, call Martha Myers
(664-6952) for information. If
volunteering to work with the children
is not your calling, you can still help
by donating supplies.

Reelfoot Rural Ministries
Have you noticed a new Campbell soup can
under the mission tree? SAM is
sponsoring the collection of soup labels
for Reelfoot Rural Ministries. Over the
years Reelfoot has received toys and
equipment for their Child-care Center
from Campbell. Please clip your soup labels
and drop them in the collection can by
the mission tree or the oversized can in
the Narthex. Together we can
make a difference for the mission center
of the United Methodist Church.
Please
save the front panels from all
Campbell’s products:
Swanson Chicken products ,
V-8 juices ,
Franco-American products
Prego Sauces .
You can drop your labels in the giant
Campbell’s Soup Can in the Narthex.

The Dorcas Ministry
"Dorcas was a New Testament woman
"abounding with deeds of kindness and
charity." - Acts 9:36.
The Dorcas ministry at Northside
attempts to meet the needs of our
membership through the provision of
meals due to hospitalization, deaths or
being bedridden. Mostly, we provide meals, but
we want you to be a part of this
fulfilling and needed ministry. Call
Annette Wright, 668-8317, or notify the
church office if you would like to join
us or need further information on this
ministry
Thank you for considering this as a
service you could see yourself being a
part of.

Lydia's Footsteps
Scripture Quilts – Lydia’s Footsteps, a sewing ministry of Northside makes Scripture Quilts for each new baby born into the Northside Family. If you sew or are interested in helping with cutting, printing, pressing, and many other steps of the making of these quilts, join us on Thursday mornings in the 40 Primrose house. We gather at 9:00 a.m. for a time of prayer and begin sewing at 9:30 am. You don’t have to come every week; drop in and discover what you can do to make this new ministry a success. NEW
MOTHERS: If you have a baby on the way, please contact Donna Turner, 668-0617 to let us know your due date and the sex of you child, if you know. We want to have your quilt ready so that you can bring your new baby home from the hospital wrapped in the word of God.

Northside United Methodist Church Education Gift Fund
The Northside United Methodist
Church Education Gift Fund
provides money to assist students who
wish to pursue a continuing education.
These funds are not limited to college
education alone but can also be awarded
for technical or trade schools,
retraining for displaced workers, or any
other training designed to further the
education of the recipient. The
following items more fully describe the
program.
* Financial support will be awarded on
the basis of need for those who might
not otherwise be able to attend an
institution for continuing education.
* In the calculation of need, other
factors beside income alone will be
considered, such as family size, a
costly illness, or any other special
circumstances that affect the
affordability of continuing education.
* The Education Gift Fund will attempt
to make any award a continuing one for
your course of study. It will be
necessary, however, to provide copies of
your registration and class schedule at
the start of each semester and proof of
satisfactory progress in your course of
study (minimum of 2.0 GPA for the year)
at the end of each semester. It will be
necessary for you to apply each semester
for a continuing award of funds.
* In all likelihood, the Education Gift
Fund will not be able to cover all
educational costs. Our funds are
intended to supplement: 1) your
earnings; 2) Pell grants; 3)
scholarships; 4) government loans; and
5) contributions from parents or others.
You are strongly encouraged to apply for
other sources of funding for your
college education. Applicants who have
already sought other sources of funding
will be more strongly considered by the
committee.
* The deadline for submitting your
application to the committee is May 1,,
for those wishing to attend college in
the fall of the same year, or for any
other educational courses of study
beginning before then. Other
applications may be submitted at any
time during the year. Completed
applications should be left in the
Missions Committee mailbox, addressed as
“Attention:
Education Gift Fund Committee.” This
mailbox is located across from Rev. Don
Thrasher's office. You may also mail the
application to the address below.
* Federal guidelines for financial aid
prohibit any student from receiving more
total dollars from all sources than
necessary to meet student expenses.
These funds will be distributed so that
federal law is not violated.
Please contact Northside United
Methodist Church with any questions.
